Sign Polarity: What are positive and negative signs?

Have you heard of positive and negative signs If you thought that this means that there are "good" signs and "bad" signs, know that this is not the case at all. Let's understand what the polarity of the signs actually means.

There are 12 zodiac signs, right? We can divide or group these 12 signs in several ways. The most common and frequent way of dividing them is by elements, rhythms and polarities .

Astrological elements

When we divide the signs by element In other words: action, sensoriality, thought, and emotion, respectively.

Usually someone who is Aryan, immediately turns around and says: "I am fire!" - yes, it really is fire - in personality, in element, but not necessarily in temperament (understand later why).

  • Fire signs: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius
  • Earth signs: Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn
  • Air signs: Gemini, Libra and Aquarius
  • Water signs: Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces

Rhythm of the sign

Besides the elements, we can divide the signs into rhythms which are cardinal , fixed e changeable In this case, each one dances to a different tune.

The cardinal signs have an energy that is more oriented to the beginnings (like a running athlete who specializes in short distances.) They are: Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn.

The fixed signs have an energy of higher concentration in the medium They are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius.

The changeable signs have as a differential a great purpose-driven energy (they are the ones that would do best in a marathon, for example, because they would increase their performance along the race until they take the final "shot") They are: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces.

Polarity of the signs

And then there is the division regarding the polarity of the signs. In this case we just say that the signs are, positive or negative or also, male and female and yet Yang and Yin .

With this, I have already given the clue that when we talk about positive and negative, we are not referring to good or bad characteristics, but rather, to the polarity of an energy. Two opposite and complementary poles of a force (as in a battery).

In my opinion, it is easier to see when we look at it from the oriental viewpoint of Yin and Yang (has the symbol come to mind?). So that is exactly what it is: the extremes complement each other so that there is a universal balance.

If one day you hear someone talking about female and male signs, it is important that you also understand that we are not talking about gender, but about energy.

So, to illustrate, look at the diagram below:

  • Sign Positive, Masculine, Active, Yang = Fire and Air = Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, Gemini, Libra and Aquarius
  • Sign Negative, Feminine, Passive, Yin = Earth and Water = Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn, Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces.

It is important to say that your personality (your temperament seen as a whole) probably has a predominance in one of the two polarities, in this case I will adopt Yin and Yang.

This means that if you are more Yang (masculine/positive), you are probably more outgoing. You are a person who as Geraldo Vandré wrote, "knows and makes the time, doesn't wait for it to happen". But this also doesn't mean that you are like this in every situation.

How does the polarity of the signs work in practice?

Now you will understand what I quoted at the beginning of the article.

Still using the same example: it is not because you are Aryan (have the Sun in Aries), that you have more fire (the element of the sign) or are positive (the polarity of the sign), or can be considered a Yang type person. This will be defined according to the totality, by looking at your Astrological Chart.

But let's say yes, that in totality you are more of a positive/Yang, outgoing type. If the Universe has put in your recipe an ascendant in a negative/feminine/Yin sign, like Capricorn for example, at least at first sight, you tend to be a little more withdrawn. The kind that you always hear: "If I didn't know you well, I would think you were shy.

The reverse is also true.

This is why it is so important to know your birth chart, because in each area of your life (or astrological house), there is the energy of a sign (and sometimes of a planet too) acting there, which will affect the way you act, face, see, or are seen by people.

No wonder Astrology is such a rich knowledge, and that every time you dive a little deeper, you realize how unique and special you are.
